Salary: $114,600 - 234,600 per year Requirements:

• We are looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion for solving difficult problems in distributed systems, large-scale storage, and highly available services.
• You should be a strong coder with familiarity in distributed systems.
• We expect you to value simplicity and scale, work effectively in a collaborative agile environment, and be eager to keep learning.
• As a senior engineer, you should be able to own software design and development for major components and features of our Object Storage Service.

• Lead the development and begin architecting scalable distributed system components that support horizontal and vertical scaling.
• Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and high-throughput, hyper-scale workloads.
• Define scalability requirements for owned components and ensure the implementation meets them.
• Design elastic systems that can scale up and down effectively.
• Leverage data plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing.
• Design performance and load testing.
• Build fault-tolerant systems that support in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automated failover.
• Design systems that handle service disruptions such as network partitions while balancing consistency, availability, and partition tolerance.
• Implement load shedding, throttling, and rate limiting to address network unreliability.
• Design durable systems that meet service level objectives and set expectations for availability and durability.
• Define key performance indicators and telemetry to identify issues in running systems.
• Build dashboards, telemetry, and alerting to proactively monitor component and system health.
• Design and implement functional and correctness requirements for new or existing feature sets and systems.
• Create complex test scenarios such as fault injection and brownout testing.
• Implement replication and synchronization techniques to preserve data integrity and availability.
• Take a proactive role in diagnosing, debugging, and resolving issues in live systems, while mentoring others.
• Implement strategies that avoid customer downtime during issue resolution.
• Maintain deep knowledge of owned components to support effective troubleshooting and performance.
• Meet operational readiness expectations through design and implementation.
• Participate in operational support rotations and provide guidance in incident response and root cause analysis.
• Implement security controls to protect data and applications in multi-tenant environments, including encryption and access controls.
• Execute remediation plans for identified security gaps.
• Ensure cloud infrastructure remains compliant and documentation stays current.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools, including infrastructure as code.
• Create and follow change management plans for patching, updating, and rolling back applications.
• Help design systems and components to support automation of patching, updates, and rollbacks.
• Manage and coordinate moderately complex tasks and multiple projects, tracking timelines and deliverables.
• Collaborate across the organization to align expectations and deliver shared goals.
• Identify and solve moderately complex issues using data and standard practices, escalating when needed.
• Continue learning new tools and industry best practices, and share knowledge through coaching and mentoring.
• Recommend and help implement process improvements across teams.
