Family Law Associate

800 Billable Hour Minimum with hours based Bonus 

Position Overview
We are seeking a diligent Family Law Associate to support a busy family law practice. The Associate will manage a portfolio of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, support, and related disputes, while providing thoughtful legal counsel and advocacy. The role requires strong litigation skills, effective communication with clients and opposing counsel, and the ability to prepare clear legal documents and case strategy with an emphasis on achieving practical, client-centered outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a case load of family law matters from intake through resolution, including contested and uncontested divorce, custody, visitation, and support cases.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and other court filings with attention to accuracy and clarity.
• Handle discovery processes including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, responses, and organizing and producing client documents.
• Prepare for and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, hearings, and trials; advocate effectively in court and before judges.
• Develop case strategy in collaboration with partners and senior counsel, analyze facts and legal issues, and identify strengths, weaknesses, and best options for clients.
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel; maintain timely updates and provide clear explanations of legal options and likely outcomes.
• Manage and organize case files, maintain accurate billing records, and ensure compliance with court rules and firm policies.
• Coach and supervise junior staff or paralegals on case preparation, document drafting, and discovery tasks as needed.
• Attend client intake meetings, evaluate potential conflicts, and contribute to client development and retention efforts.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
• 1+  years of experience practicing family law preferred; experience with litigation and trial work strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
• Strong legal research and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to draft effective pleadings and settlement documents.
• Experience managing discovery, document production, and case organization in complex family law matters.
• Excellent oral advocacy and courtroom experience, including motion practice and trials.
• Superior communication, client service, and interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex legal issues in plain language.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple matters under deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team; commitment to ethical practice and client confidentiality.
