Assistant Professor, Sociology, Inequalities [R0153346] Full‑time, tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. ROLE OF THE POSITION We seek a scholar whose primary expertise includes Social Inequalities and whose research and teaching contribute to Crime, Law, and Deviance. The successful candidate’s qualifications and interests may also complement existing departmental strengths, including urban and community life; culture, media, and identity; and life course, health, and well‑being. This position will strengthen the department’s expertise in Social Inequalities while contributing to our broader areas of specialization in Crime, Law, and Deviance. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research with the potential to develop a strong record of scholarship, to obtain extramural funding for research, and to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level. Applicants must also demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural student population through training, teaching, and other comparable experience. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Inequalities and Crime, Law, and Deviance Supervise and mentor master’s and doctoral students Contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in quantitative and/or qualitative methods Demonstrate a willingness to teach SOC 101, Introduction to Sociology Pursue extramural research funding PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT The Department has 16 full‑time faculty members and offers a B.A. and Ph.D. program in Sociology.
