Medical Records Clerk

Job Description We are recruiting a detail-driven Medical Records Clerk to support a busy healthcare clinic in Sacramento. This role is ideal for someone who excels in accuracy, organization, and customer service while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and facility policies.
- Pay Range: $21 - $24 per hour (DOE)
- Schedule: 8:00-4:30 / 100% onsite Sacramento
- Duration: 3 months
- Process, review, and release medical records in compliance with HIPAA, retrieving documentation from electronic, off-site, and physical sources.
- Scan, upload, organize, and audit patient charts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and standardized formatting across all records.
- Manage incoming requests from patients, physicians, and walk-ins; provide timely responses, resolve issues, and maintain detailed logs of all activity.
- Support chart completion by retrieving required documentation, preparing charts for committee reviews, and generating monthly reporting logs.
- Maintain workflow across assigned sites, adjusting duties during peak periods or staff shortages, and providing front desk coverage as needed.
- Handle cash payments, support billing operations, ensure policy compliance, and recommend improvements to procedures while performing additional duties as assigned.
- 2 years of experience in medical records, health information management, or medical office administration required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and medical record retention requirements.
- Experience with EHR/EMR systems; strong scanning and indexing accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain productivity across sites.
- Professional, reliable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
