Location: Bay City, MI, Hybrid

Starting Salary: Up to $115,000 + amazing benefits and employer paid pension

Our public accounting client is looking to add a knowledgeable Sr. Tax Accountant/Manager to support a broad for-profit client base with preparation, planning, and advisory services across individual and business tax matters. This role oversees engagements from initial information gathering through final filing, while helping clients navigate regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local levels. The position is based in Bay City, Michigan and also includes direct leadership of a team of tax accountants.

Responsibilities:

• Lead tax engagements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and other entities from planning through completion.

• Prepare and examine federal, state, and local tax filings to confirm accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable rules.

• Analyze complex tax questions and interpret current laws and regulations to develop practical client guidance.

• Identify opportunities to improve tax outcomes and present thoughtful recommendations to clients and internal leadership.

• Develop tax projections and support quarterly estimate calculations for a range of client situations.

• Address client-specific tax matters, including planning projects, technical research, and responses to agency correspondence.

• Resolve issues related to federal and state tax notices by gathering support, drafting responses, and coordinating follow-through.

• Maintain organized engagement documentation and complete supporting files for efficient review and future reference.

• Provide daily direction, coaching, and work review for less-experienced tax staff to strengthen quality and career growth.

• At least 5 years of experience in public tax accounting.

• Demonstrated background preparing and reviewing corporate, individual, and pass-through entity tax returns.

• Working knowledge of multi-state, state, and local tax requirements.

• Experience with annual income tax provision work and related tax compliance activities.

• Ability to research tax law, interpret technical guidance, and apply conclusions to client scenarios.

• Familiarity with entity formation considerations and the tax implications of business structures.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and client engagements simultaneously.
