Job Description As an Aircraft Mechanic III (Sheet Metal) WG‑3806 equivalent, you will lead a team in performing aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance. Your responsibilities include supervising subordinate mechanics, maintaining and repairing aircraft structures and components, and providing technical guidance on maintenance operations. You will use your expertise to diagnose complex problems through blueprints and manufacturer’s manuals, apply airframe and power plant knowledge to restore equipment, and solve mechanical issues in a safe and efficient manner. Hours of Operation Day shift: Mon‑Fri; 0700‑1600 Swing shift: Mon‑Fri; 1500‑2400 Mid shift: Sun‑Thurs; 2300‑0800 Job Responsibilities Lead a team in performing aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Perform, supervise, and inspect the duties of Mechanic I, II, and III. Maintain and repair aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty; repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation. Use technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals. Apply comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and determine functionality of noncomplex electrical systems. Use tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and shears. Provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers; prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. Maintain aircraft logs and records; provide guidance and technical expertise to lower‑level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and maintenance efforts. Plan layouts, fabrications, modifications, repairs, assemblies, and installations of complex aircraft sheet metal parts and assemblies. Evaluate damage to aircraft sheet metal structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, dents, and loose or missing rivets. Determine the type and extent of repairs needed to restore original strength to aircraft components. Apply principles of radial‑line development combined with parallel‑line development to devise and calculate patterns for complex structures. Determine dimensions, angles, contours, and types of attaching hardware. Make general repairs by manufacturing and installing new parts, reinforcing, patching, and replacing defective parts. Apply accurate riveting, soldering, and techniques for proper spacing, fit, durability, structural soundness, and appearance. Spot treat corrosion by performing paint touch ups as required. Perform roll and lift spoiler hinge lobe micrometer wear check. Remove/reinstall, and/or re‑stake elevator and rudder bearings with equipment and tools provided. Remove and replace sump tank helicoils with equipment and tools provided. Job Requirements Minimum of 2 years on platform preferred or 3 years in AMIII career field. Authorized to clear Red X primary system. Authorized to accomplish in‑progress inspections (IPI) primary system. Authorized to remove warning/danger tags. Authorized to sign condition tags. 6 of 6 personnel authorized to verify Not Repairable This Station (NRTS). 1 of 6 personnel authorized tow vehicle operator.
