Job Title: Machine Operator – Fabrication

Job Description

This role operates a variety of fabrication machinery to produce custom metal components from start to finish. You will interpret blueprints and sketches, set up and run equipment, perform in-process inspections, and ensure all work meets dimensional and quality specifications while maintaining a strong focus on safety and housekeeping.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine job requirements and the sequence of operations.
• Set up and use special jigs, fixtures, and tooling required for each job, ensuring efficient and accurate setups.
• Operate fabrication equipment such as press brakes, band saws, drill presses, manual lathes, manual mills, plate rolls, and related machinery to process parts according to drawings.
• Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Perform continuous visual and dimensional inspection of in-process parts, reviewing job specifications periodically to maintain quality standards.
• Debur parts by hand during the production process to remove sharp edges and ensure safe, finished components.
• Return tooling, jigs, and fixtures to appropriate storage racks after use to maintain organization and equipment readiness.
• Notify supervision promptly of any malfunctioning equipment to support efficient and safe operations.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and assist with repairs as needed to keep machinery in good working condition.
• Sharpen drill bits and maintain cutting tools and tips to ensure clean, accurate cuts and extended tool life.
• Cut steel, aluminum, or plastic stock as required to support fabrication activities.
• Aid less experienced Machine Operators when time allows, sharing knowledge and supporting team development.
• Perform all duties in accordance with established safety procedures and consistently use all approved safety devices.
• Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, contributing to a cooperative and productive team environment.
• Perform housekeeping duties to keep the department neat, orderly, and safe.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in a fabrication role.
• Mechanical experience with strong understanding of fabrication processes and equipment.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, prints, and sketches.
• Proficiency operating press brakes.
• Experience using band saws for cutting various materials.
• Hands-on experience with manual lathes and manual mills.
• Ability to operate plate rollers and related forming equipment.
• Skilled in using drill presses and hand torches.
• Competence with measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures and consistently use safety devices.
• Strong attention to detail for visual and dimensional inspection of parts.
• Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a custom fabrication environment rather than high-volume production.
• Comfort working with steel, aluminum, and plastic stock.
• Ability to assist and mentor less experienced machine operators.
• Strong organizational skills for managing tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
• Capability to perform manual deburring and finishing operations.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to maintain positive working relationships.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hudson, WI.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
