This position supports the District’s mission by promoting academic achievement, athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and the personal growth of student‑athletes during their final year of middle school competition. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead the planning, organization, and supervision of the 8th grade volleyball team in accordance with District policies and PIAA regulations. Coach and supervise student‑athletes in fundamental and intermediate volleyball skills, including serving, passing, setting, attacking, and floor defense. Conduct structured practices that emphasize skill refinement, rotational systems, team communication, and safe participation. Instruct student‑athletes in game fundamentals, specialized court positions, and match strategies appropriate for 8th grade competition. Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to support individual growth and readiness for high school‑level play. Promote and model appropriate conduct, sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the school community. Support the academic success and overall well‑being of student‑athletes in alignment with District expectations. Collaborate with the High School coaching staff to ensure vertical alignment in drills, terminology, and offensive/defensive systems. Oversee all aspects of match preparation, including roster management, substitutions, warm‑ups, and equipment setup. Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of volleyball equipment (nets, balls, carts) and gym facilities. Communicate effectively and professionally with student‑athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and athletic department staff. Ensure compliance with District policies, PIAA regulations, and middle school league rules, including eligibility and safety protocols. Uphold and enforce District codes of conduct, team rules, and expectations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Qualifications Prior coaching and/or competitive experience in volleyball is preferred, specifically at the middle school or youth level. Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, modern court techniques, training principles, and safety practices. Ability to work effectively with middle‑school‑aged student‑athletes in a developmental, educational environment. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with the coaching staff, administrators, and school staff. Completion of all required District, PIAA, and state‑mandated clearances and coaching certifications.
