University of Kentucky Position Title Registered Nurse, Medical Surgical Unit – 6 Main (Good Samaritan Hospital) Location Lexington, Ky Salary $28.00–$39.10 per hour Schedule and Shift Full‑time, 3×12‑hour night shifts per week (7 PM – 7:30 AM) plus occasional weekend and holiday duties. Physical Requirements Must lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 lb daily; stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; may be exposed to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments. Job Summary and Responsibilities Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care to adults with diverse medical‑surgical needs (diabetes, endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, wound care, pre‑ and post‑operative cases). Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate individualized nursing plans of care using the nursing process. Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction. Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants). Adhere to University policies, federal, state, and local regulations. Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and achieve expected patient outcomes. Required Qualifications Associate in Nursing (ADN) or higher; BSN is preferred. Active Kentucky registered nurse (RN) license or equivalent (e.g., TWP, provisional, or compact RN license). American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification, valid for at least 6 months after employment. None or minimal related experience required. Strong direct patient care, critical thinking, and communication skills. Basic computer navigation and internet proficiency. Organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills. Professional, respectful communication with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
