Job Title:  Senior Real Estate Accountant  Department:  Accounting
Reports to: CEO | office and retail assets

Job Summary 
Real estate development and investment firm in Culver City, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant responsible for day to day accounting of specific office and retail properties. Core responsibilities include all aspects of billing, tenant collections and payables through Yardi, maintaining and supporting the general ledger, recording revenue, accruing expenses, monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss analysis, and every quarter, the preparation of consolidated and combined financial statements, CAM reconciliations. This position requires daily physical attendance at the office in Culver City. Candidate must have minimum of 4 years of Yardi experience and solid understanding of accounting as it relates to office and retail properties.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Perform daily activities such as receive checks, post receipts and prepare deposits; review and post payable invoices; review and post tenant billing adjustments; review and post prepayment application to open charges, and; update gross sales reports
• Monthly accounting close process, including recordation of monthly operational activity
• Monthly preparation of schedules to support the balance sheet and income recordation
• Record monthly rental income, ancillary income, and reconcile cash receipts
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Record and amortize prepaid items such as insurance, loan fees and deferred income
• Maintain fixed assets, calculate and record monthly depreciation and amortization expense
• Reconcile security deposits to the subsidiary ledger monthly
• Accrue all property taxes, which includes understanding how property taxes are calculated
• Record debt service monthly, including principal amortization, interest expense, escrow accounts
• Understand how to analyze and record bad debt expenses and prepaid rent
• Record payroll biweekly
• Record monthly accrued liabilities, including utility expenses, debt service, etc.
• Record management fee expenses, asset management fees, and other G&A expenses monthly
• Work with Asset Managers for proper capitalization of fixed assets and operational expenses
• Conduct monthly comparison of income and expenses to budget with follow-up and explanations for significant variances
• Complete analysis of financial data and assist with ad hoc projects
• Prepare monthly financial statement reporting for investors and lenders
• Monthly forecasting of income, expenses, and cash flow analysis
• Quarterly consolidation of financial data
• Prepare the annual budget
• CAM reconciliations and billings
• Assist with annual audit with outside auditors
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of accounting for specific real estate assets.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet goals and deadlines
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Proficient with Quickbooks, Yardi and all of the related suites in Yardi

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or a related area of study with a minor or concentration in accounting
• A minimum of four years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in commercial real estate environment
• Understands internal controls for real estate operations and accounting
• Understands financial reporting and the significance of each financial statement
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual basis, and cash basis accounting

Physical Requirements

• Expected work hours: 8:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.
• Travel: None
• Work environment and physical demands: General office environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year

Experience level:
