Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Accounting will provide advanced accounting support and assist with daily finance, accounting, and office operations, including:

 

• Oversee program and grant accounting activities, including grant compliance, grant budget monitoring, drawdowns, and related reporting.
• Manage all subsidiary accounting, including intercompany transactions and consolidation for subsidiaries and providing subsidiary financial statements and consolidated reporting.
• Review and approve reconciliations, journal entries, and schedules prepared by staff/senior accountants, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
• Review and approve Accounts Payable, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
• Performs journal entries and account reconciliations for complex accounting transactions, such as loan loss reserves estimates. 
• Assist CFO and/or Director of Accounting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, and investor reporting requirements.
• Research and evaluate the accounting impact of new business activities, transactions, and organizational initiatives.
• Gathers necessary account information and documents needed to perform annual audits and assists external auditors.
• Maintains knowledge of generally acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
• Complete other tasks as required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

• 7 years of experience in general ledger. Knowledge of Abila MIP system is preferred.
• 7 years of experience of GAAP and internal controls, preferably with consolidations and program and/or grant accounting (compliance, budget monitoring, drawdowns and reporting) experience. 
• 7 years of experience in organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to review and approve work of staff and senior accountants.

 

Key Skills

• Accurate documentation of financial transactions
• Account reconciliation (cash receipts, receivables/payables, balance sheet, income statement accounts)
• Financial report preparation and audit preparation and report for external auditors
• Accounts payable processing and vendor payment coordination
• Strong knowledge of general ledger (Abila MIP) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong knowledge of financial statements and accounting practices and procedures
• Grant recording and compliance with grant agreements and budgets
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Cross-departmental coordination and effective team collaboration
• Confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential financial information
