Research Assistant, Per Diem (Multiple Vacancies) Location: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, Piscataway, NJ. Position Type: per diem Research Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a per diem Research Assistant to assist in single‑molecule biophysical analysis of force‑producing enzymes under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The role involves working in a laboratory environment utilizing optical and magnetic tweezers, custom instrumentation, and data analysis tools. Key responsibilities include: Prepare samples and carry out single‑molecule biophysical assays on force‑producing enzymes. Daily maintenance of various cell cultures. Maintain custom‑built instrumentation for optical and magnetic tweezers. Use and improve custom‑written LabVIEW and MATLAB scripts for data acquisition and analysis. General molecular biology and recombinant protein preparation. Maintain clear and comprehensive laboratory records. Perform statistical analyses of research data. Minimum qualifications: Currently enrolled in undergraduate/graduate studies, or satisfactory completion of an undergraduate/graduate degree program, in biomedical engineering, biophysics, physics, biochemistry, or a similar field. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: A basic knowledge of computer programming and strong quantitative skills. General wet‑lab skills. Preferred qualifications: Minimum of 1 year of lab research experience (highly preferred). Experience with MATLAB and/or LabVIEW. Experience with biophysical techniques. Physical demands and work environment: Physical demands: standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements. Work environment: laboratory environment with moderate noise. Salary: $17.00 per hour (minimum $15.92, maximum $150.00). Salary is determined by experience, qualifications, and funding availability.
