Senior Labor Relations Specialist

Senior Labor Relations Specialist Position within the Office of University Labor Relations, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Overview Rutgers is a leading national research university committed to creating a safe, diverse, and respectful workplace. The Senior Labor Relations Specialist supports collective negotiations, labor relations policy development, and the administration of universal agreements for the university. Posting Summary Under the guidance of the Associate Vice President for Academic Labor Relations and the Associate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, the Specialist will assist in the negotiation, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements, provide research and analysis on labor issues, advise supervisors and employees, and collaborate with Human Resources and General Counsel on grievance and arbitration matters. Responsibilities Participate in collective negotiations and deliver proposals, workshops, and policy guidance. Research, prepare, and present proposals for collective negotiations. Lead, guide, and assign work to Labor Relations Specialists. Resolve complex employee‑supervisor‑union related issues. Advise supervisors and employees on labor and employee relations matters. Conduct research on existing, new, and anticipated legislation. Provide guidance on grievance procedures. Recommend new and existing human resources policies in collaboration with HR. Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel on grievance, disciplinary arbitration, PERC proceedings, and contract interpretation. Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and contribute to an inclusive environment. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five (5) years of progressively more complex experience in labor relations or human resources in a unionized environment. Certifications & Licenses Knowledge of employment and labor law issues. Proficiency in the use of databases and spreadsheet software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Relevant advanced degree or law degree. Prior experience in higher education and/or the public sector. Experience in employee or labor relations in an academic medical center or healthcare facility. Experience costing proposals and wages in labor negotiations. Salary Grade 07 – Range: $94,492 to $144,715 (mid‑range $119,604). Minimum salary is $94,492, with potential adjustments based on qualifications and available departmental or grant funds.
