Banquet Captain

Banquet Captain – La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Inc. Hourly Rate: $19.75 Responsibilities Oversee all banquet and beverage activities, including room set‑ups, service, and clean‑up for every banquet function. Assist with scheduling and supervising temporary banquet staff; maintain banquet equipment and requisitions of linens, china, glassware, and silverware. Consult with Supervisors, Managers, or Chef on service arrangements, staffing needs, and equipment requirements. Inspect dining room serving stations and “side work” assignments to ensure neatness, cleanliness, and appropriateness of staff attire. Anticipate client requests and proactively address food quality and service complaints. Maintain working knowledge of the POS system; perform closing reports and nightly reconciliations accurately. Support managers in supervising dining room key personnel and ensuring quality service standards are met. Attend monthly department meetings and participate in continuous improvement activities. Assist in supervising the dining area and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws. Qualifications One‑year degree from college or technical school, or three to six months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; present information clearly to customers, clients, and employees. Basic math skills, including calculation of discounts, percentages, and simple algebra. Common sense reasoning ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and to resolve standard problems. Must obtain and maintain a San Diego County Food Handlers card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification. Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and handle hot equipment safely. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Regular standing and walking for long periods; frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; exposure to hot equipment, moderate to loud noise, and varying temperatures. Operates in a busy hospitality environment with occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions and potential chemical hazards. Adherence to all safety procedures is required.
