Fund Controller

Our client, a fast-growing private credit fund with a focus on asset-based finance solutions across North America, is seeking a Fund Controller to own the firm’s accounting and reporting functions. Reporting directly to the COO/CFO, this high-autonomy role offers direct exposure to senior leadership and significant opportunity to design scalable processes as the platform continues to expand. The Fund Controller will manage all aspects of fund accounting, financial reporting, audit, and portfolio-level analytics, freeing leadership to focus on strategy and deals. This role requires independence, technical skill, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Job Responsibilities Manage month-end and quarter-end close processes for multiple entities, including SMAs, funds, and rated note feeders Oversee calculation and allocation of management fees and carried interest, ensuring adherence to fund documents Coordinate with third-party fund administrators on NAV calculations, capital account statements, investor allocations, and serve as escalation point for discrepancies Maintain accounting for rated note structures, including interest accruals, fee amortization, and covenant tracking Prepare, review, and maintain waterfall models, distribution calculations, and related financial reports Prepare and/or review SEC filings (Form ADV, Form PF, Form D) in coordination with compliance consultants Support annual audits by coordinating with external auditors and serving as primary contact for PBC requests and audit inquiries Oversee asset-level and portfolio accounting, including forward flow purchase transactions, asset acquisitions, payments, loss reserves, and principal/interest allocations Reconcile loan-level data and servicer reporting; validate portfolio performance across a diverse range of asset classes Build scalable processes and controls to support ongoing growth; contribute to technology roadmap via AI solutions Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred 5–8 years of accounting and fund finance experience, with minimum 3 years in a fund accounting role within alternative investment management or fund administration Direct experience with private credit, specialty finance, structured products, or asset-backed lending highly valued Experience with closed-end fund structures, rated debt vehicles (CLO, ABS, or rated note feeders), and familiarity with forward flow mechanics preferred Strong knowledge of SEC-registered adviser compliance, including Form ADV, Form PF, and Advisers Act obligations Advanced Excel skills, including complex financial modeling, waterfall calculations, and pivot-based reporting Familiarity with loan-level data management and US GAAP for investment companies and fair value measurement Comfort navigating complex, bespoke deal structures; high attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate financial information clearly Proactive, ownership-oriented work style; able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment Demonstrated process-building and problem-solving skills in an entrepreneurial setting This position is based in New York City and requires five days per week in-office. The total compensation is up to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
