Reports To: Building Administrator/Director of Pupil Personnel Job Goal: To provide special education to support the academic achievement, social/behavioral skills and emotional well‑being of Barrington students. The location for this position for the 2020‑2021 School Year is Barrington High School in the LifeSkills Program. Job Description: This position entails providing and coordinating a configuration of services and supports to students with IEPs. Performance Qualifications: Demonstrates expertise in the area of special education through teaching, collaborating, consulting, performing assessments and developing Individual Education Programs (IEPs). Performance Responsibilities Adheres to federal and state special education regulations Communicates high and clear expectations for students Instills a growth mindset in students Fosters independence and grit in all learners Evidences knowledge and understanding of high and low incidence disabilities Demonstrates knowledge and skills in providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) Provides special education to students in the general education classroom and special class settings Provides evidence‑based academic instruction and interventions in accordance with ESSA and student IEPs Demonstrates knowledge and skills in providing evidence‑based interventions in executive functioning and social/emotional and behavior areas Demonstrates knowledge and skills in providing transition services Administers and/or analyzes a variety of assessments (e.g., academic achievement, diagnostic, screening, progress monitoring, observations, etc.), shares findings with key stakeholders and interprets test data to support student performance Develops, implements and monitors meaningful and measurable Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Provides consultation to teachers regarding individualized needs, accommodating and modifying instructional techniques Coordinates the support services of Teacher Assistants for students on caseload Communicates regularly with students and parents regarding academic, behavioral, social/emotional needs and progress; communicates immediately when urgent concerns arise Serves as a member of Evaluation and IEP Teams Demonstrates skills in facilitating meetings Collects and analyzes student progress monitoring data regularly to inform instructional decisions Communicates regularly with Building Administrators and Director and Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Has solid knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and Essential Elements Follows school policy and procedures, respecting professional boundaries Identifies student needs and cooperates with other staff to address health, attitude and learning problems Maintains thorough records for each student Attends staff development, curriculum development meetings and professional activities Collaboratively creates and implements performance tasks, formative and summative assessments aligned to the Common Core and 21st‑century skills and validates tasks Disseminates accurate positive information about district goals and initiatives in print and electronic formats Supports efficient collaborative management of school operations to ensure learning experiences, positive discipline practices, and safety practices promote the mission of the district Utilizes understanding of student interests and experiences to create connections between content and student experiences Designs lessons that extend beyond factual recall, challenge higher‑level cognitive skills, and engage students with inquiry and evidence‑based methods Creates learning groups where all students collaborate and work independently Uses a variety of communication strategies to engage students, collect and share information, and enrich discourse Provides students with opportunities and guidance to evaluate their own work against criteria and use self‑assessment to set goals and provide timely feedback Takes responsibility for learning about and implementing federal, state, district and school initiatives to improve teaching and learning Interacts with students, colleagues, parents and others with fairness, equity, guided by codes of professional conduct Exhibits reliable attendance, promptness, dependability and professional ethics; uses effective communication skills; completes all required forms and reports accurately and timely; performs functions in accordance with RI Professional Teaching Standards and Conduct Performs any other duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrators Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Physical demands include operating keyboard, viewing computer screen, sitting or standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping, manipulating items, moving between locations, lifting up to 30 pounds, and possible restraints following CPI. Communication requires hearing and responding in various settings.
