About the Role:

As a Cook at Larkin Community Hospital (LCH), you will play a vital role in delivering nutritious and high-quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring their dietary needs and preferences are met with care and precision. Your work will directly contribute to the overall health and well-being of individuals within the healthcare environment by preparing food that adheres to strict safety and hygiene standards. You will collaborate closely with the dietary and kitchen teams, including the Head Chef, to maintain efficient food production processes and uphold the hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care. This role requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while standing for extended periods. Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience in food preparation and production within a professional kitchen environment.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity and physical stamina to perform kitchen tasks including standing for extended periods and moving objects safely.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and proper hygiene practices in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in a healthcare or hospital food service environment.
• Certification in food safety or culinary arts.
• Experience working under the supervision of a Head Chef or in a team-oriented kitchen setting.
• Ability to adapt to various dietary restrictions and special nutritional needs.
• Basic knowledge of inventory management and kitchen equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and dietary guidelines specific to patient needs.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Assist the Head Chef in managing food inventory, including receiving, storing, and rotating supplies to minimize waste.
• Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and healthcare personnel to accommodate special dietary requests and ensure timely meal delivery.
• Perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, moving kitchen equipment, and standing for long periods to support daily kitchen operations.

Skills:

The required skills such as food preparation and production are essential for creating meals that meet nutritional and safety standards daily. Speaking and reading English fluently enables clear communication with the kitchen team and healthcare staff, ensuring accurate meal preparation and delivery.
