A Day in the Life

You'll keep our people processes moving so managers can focus on their teams. Here's what a Monday might look like.

• 8:00 a.m. Four new bakery hires start this week. You check that their I-9s and background checks are done in UKG.
• 9:00 a.m. A bakery manager emails. A team member just got promoted to shift lead. You process the change in UKG.
• 10:30 a.m. You open two new Support Center jobs, post them and send an offer letter for a role that just closed.
• 11:30 a.m. The government updates the I-9 rules. You use AI to turn the update into a one-page checklist for bakery managers, then check it against the official guidance.
• 12:30 p.m. You scan a stack of paper files from one of our bakeries and upload them to UKG.
• 1:30 p.m. Payroll closes tomorrow. You work through timecard exceptions with our HR Manager. You're her backup on payroll, so you know every step.
• 2:00 p.m. You pull headcount and turnover numbers for our monthly HR dashboard with our HR Manager.
• 3:30 p.m. You file workers' comp paperwork and set up a leave of absence.
• 4:30 p.m. A manager can't find a report in UKG. You share your screen and walk her through it.

Position Summary

The HR Generalist runs the day-to-day HR work for more than 400 team members across our Support Center, SHIPP distribution center and company-owned bakeries. You'll own recruiting admin, onboarding and offboarding, and employee changes in UKG, and you'll be the backup on payroll. You'll stay current on the rules that keep us compliant, and you'll use AI to make routine work faster. This role is built to grow. You'll learn every part of HR from the ground up.

Accountabilities/Duties:

• Run recruiting admin in UKG: open and post jobs, send offers, and complete I-9s and background checks
• Coordinate onboarding and off boarding so new hires are ready on day one
• Process new hires, job changes and terminations for our company-owned bakeries in UKG
• Gather, scan and upload bakery paper files into UKG
• Pull and clean HR data for our monthly dashboard
• Handle workers' comp and leave of absence paperwork
• Answer UKG how-to questions from managers
• Back up our HR Manager on payroll: review timecards, process pay changes and help every payroll run on time
• Stay current on employment law and compliance changes, like I-9, leave and wage rules, and keep our processes compliant
• Use AI to take friction out of routine work, like drafting emails, checklists and manager guides

Skills and Abilities:

• Learning agility. You're curious, you learn fast and you're happy to say "show me how."
• You love breadth. Switching from a job posting to a data pull to a manager question keeps you energized.
• Clear, friendly communication. By email, by phone and in person.
• Tech comfort. UKG experience is a plus. If you haven't used it, you pick up new software quickly and want to learn it.
• AI comfort. You use AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot to work faster, and you always check what they give you. You're always asking where AI could save the team time.
• Compliance-minded. You keep up with rule changes and follow the right process step by step, every time.
• Attention to detail. You catch the missing date before it turns into a problem. On payroll, that matters every week.
• You protect pay data and personal information every time. That includes knowing what never goes into an AI tool.

Education/Certifications and Work Experience Requirements:

Required

• 1+ year of experience in HR, recruiting coordination or office administration
• Comfort with Excel and at least one HRIS or applicant tracking system
• Comfort using AI tools at work, or a real interest in learning them
• Strong organization and follow-through

Nice to have

• UKG experience
• Payroll processing experience, especially in UKG
• I-9 and E-Verify experience
• Bachelor's degree in HR, business or a related field
• PHR or SHRM-CP, or interest in earning one
