Special Education Sensory Services - Itinerant Teacher Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Overview The position provides individual, direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the least restrictive environment as required by the Individual Education Plan (IEP). The role reports to the Special Education Supervisor. Essential Functions Assist general education teachers in planning and differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing (20% of time). Collaborate with audiologists to determine the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing (10% of time). Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other specialists to plan appropriate educational programs (20% of time). Provide individualized instruction to students based on current IEP goals (40% of time). Maintain student records for compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to students with disabilities (5% of time). Evaluate personal professional growth needs and attend in‑services as appropriate to remain current with trends in instructional materials and practices (5% of time). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education (Hearing Impaired). Three (3) years of experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Washington State Teacher Certificate, D/HH. Clearances: Criminal justice fingerprint and background check. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Special Education (Hearing Impaired). Five (5) years of experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the deaf community and culture. Knowledge of various communication methods used with deaf and hard of hearing students. Skill in assisting with the writing of IEPs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Ability to differentiate instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Skill in training students and teachers in the use and care of amplification systems. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Signed Exact English (SEE). Ability to communicate effectively with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Ability to make instruction exciting and challenging to motivate students. Use of IEPO. Collaborate and consult with assistive technology staff. Observe students to assess access to instruction.
