DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of the General Counsel (OGC). The Office of the General Counsel directs the legal position of the OCFO with respect to federal and District appropriations, contracting and procurement, and accounting and financial transactions. The General Counsel represents the OCFO in litigation and in other legal matters in which the OCFO is a party or has legal interest, supervises and manages outside counsel in all legal matters, and assures the legal sufficiency of the OCFO's programs and policies. The General Counsel, under the leadership of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Chief of Staff, is responsible for serving as the principal legal advisor to the Chief Financial Officer.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Eight (8) years of progressive experience to include four (4) years at the managerial level performing the related duties and responsibilities such as: reviewing, analyzing, and drafting documents related to complex legal issues and legislation; serving as a legal advisor; and working knowledge of two or more of the following disciplines: Corporate Law, Legislation, Litigation, Commercial, Federal or State/Municipal Government, Labor Contracts, Employment Law, or other relevant disciplines.
In addition - A Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent from an accredited law school is required and D.C. licensure or admittance to membership in the D.C. Bar in accordance with the D.C. Bar rules within six (6) months of employment. An official transcript must be submitted in order to be considered for the position. If applicable, your application package must include a U.S. evaluation of all foreign transcripts. Acceptable foreign credential equivalency reports must be provided by organizations that have current membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Experience that provides the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. - Participating as a member of the OCFO executive team in the continual development and evaluation of policies and review of OCFO programs;
- Serving on the OCFO and other District Government committees, councils, working groups and adhoc groups or community boards, as required; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned
