About the Opportunity

We are seeking compassionate, detail-oriented professionals to join a Workplace Support team as a Virtual Visual Interpreter . In this unique role, you will provide real-time visual descriptions and assistance to employees who are blind or have low vision, helping them navigate workplace environments, complete job-related tasks, and engage confidently with colleagues.

Using live video, screen sharing, and remote communication tools, you will serve as a trusted partner by translating visual information into clear, objective, and actionable descriptions.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong communication skills, excellent situational awareness, and a passion for accessibility and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

Real-Time Visual Description

• Provide accurate verbal descriptions of environments, documents, screens, printed materials, equipment, room layouts, and other visual content.
• Translate complex visual information into concise and objective descriptions while identifying landmarks, colors, textures, and potential hazards.

Navigation & Spatial Guidance

• Assist employees in navigating physical and digital environments using live video feeds.
• Provide clear directional guidance and spatial orientation using methods such as clock-face directions.

Workplace Support

• Read and interpret signage, labels, forms, and written materials.
• Assist with identifying objects, people, and workspace layouts.

Technical Assistance

• Support employees with software navigation, office equipment usage, and camera positioning.
• Guide users through basic troubleshooting for hardware and software issues.

Communication & Service Excellence

• Maintain a calm, professional, and supportive communication style.
• Adapt assistance based on individual employee preferences and accessibility needs.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

• Document interactions and accessibility concerns.
• Participate in ongoing training and contribute to process improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or interest in accessibility, disability services, education, social work, or related fields.
• Familiarity with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, or other low-vision tools.
• Knowledge of best practices when working with blind and low-vision communities.
• Background in customer service, retail, coaching, caregiving, or virtual support environments.
• Knowledge of visual arts, geography, design, or related disciplines that support detailed visual description.
