Trust & Estate Associate Attorney

About the Role: In this position, you will manage a broad range of trust and estate matters from planning through administration, serving as a primary legal resource for clients and internal stakeholders. You will leverage your trust and estate experience to design and implement sophisticated strategies that address estate, gift, and related tax considerations. Your work will directly impact clients' financial futures and help strengthen the firm's reputation for high-quality, client-focused counsel. Key Responsibilities: Draft and review wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents tailored to client objectives. Advise clients on estate and gift planning strategies, including tax-efficient wealth transfer and asset protection structures. Handle trust and estate administration matters, including probate, trust funding, and coordination with fiduciaries and beneficiaries. Analyze estate, gift, and partnership tax implications of proposed planning strategies and structures. Conduct legal research on trust and estate issues and provide clear, practical guidance to clients and colleagues. Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors (CPAs, financial planners, fiduciaries) to implement comprehensive estate plans. Manage client files, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and responsive communication. Key Requirements: 3-6+ years of dedicated trust and estate practice experience in a law firm or similar professional environment. Strong technical proficiency in estate planning and trust administration, including complex structures. Working knowledge of estate and gift tax principles and their application to planning strategies. Active license to practice law in Missouri; ability to obtain Kansas licensure if not already admitted. Proven ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously with strong attention to detail and deadlines. Clear, concise communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to clients. Easy-going, collaborative personality with a professional, client-focused approach. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active membership in the Missouri Bar (required).
