Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 6 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Medsurg/Tele experience required License: Must possess valid nursing license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Strong IV start skills Ability to hit the ground running Positive attitude Experience with cardiac drips Description: This is a high-demand, high-acuity unit. The patient population includes individuals with pulmonary conditions, including cystic fibrosis and pneumonia. There is also an overflow of liver patients and patients with sickle cell disease who require frequent pain management. The unit also cares for geriatric patients with active illnesses and high fall risk. Nurse-to-patient ratios aim for 1:5 but may flex to 1:6 depending on staffing. The nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. Experience with heparin, amiodarone, and blood transfusions is beneficial but not required. There are monitor techs available on a different unit. Charge nurses are available on all shifts with reduced patient assignments. Registered nurses need to be flexible with scheduling and floating to other medical-surgical acuity areas. The unit emphasizes teamwork and requires a willingness to float. Candidates with 3 or more years of experience, previous travel experience, and a background in busy hospitals are highly sought after. Cancellation policies allow the facility to cancel shifts under certain conditions. Experience with EPIC charting is required. This position may involve caring for patients requiring various respiratory support, such as CPAP and BiPAP. The work environment is fast-paced, demanding flexibility and effective multi-tasking skills.
