Associate, Quantitative Power Analyst

Castleton Commodities International is seeking a Quantitative Power Analyst to provide in-depth analysis of the US energy markets, with a specific focus on Power, Natural Gas, and Renewables. The Quantitative Power Analyst will create, maintain, and enhance fundamental supply and demand models, power flow models, and pricing models that deliver actionable insights to the trading teams. This opportunity offers meaningful exposure to US energy trading operations and the potential to develop toward risk-taking responsibilities.Responsibilities:Conduct research and analysis of the Power, Natural Gas, and Renewable markets to directly support trading activities.Report and communicate data to both research analysts and risk takers, exploring relationships between price and fundamentalsUtilize Dayzer software to build, maintain, and analyze power flow models for PJM and ERCOT, incorporating assumptions related to generation, load, outages, transmission constraints, congestion, renewable output, and market topology.Analyze Dayzer model outputs to evaluate congestion, locational marginal pricing, basis risk, transmission constraints, and other market fundamentals relevant to trading strategies.Support scenario analysis using Dayzer and other analytical tools to assess the impact of changing market conditions, generation availability, fuel prices, transmission outages, renewable output, and load forecasts.Perform ad-hoc analyses for trade ideas and other projects.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.2+ years of experience in a Desk Analyst role covering North American Power & Natural Gas markets.Experience using Dayzer Software, or comparable power market simulation software to support analysis of PJM & ERCOT Power markets.Ability to solve loosely defined complex problems with minimal supervision.Proficient in a variety of programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, etc.) and experienced in programming within an organization with a strict version control culture.Demonstrated passion for markets, modeling, and the energy industry, with a dynamic approach to learning and expanding technical knowledge.Proven ability to communicate effectively and execute projects in a team environment.Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic and high-intensity environment including open-floor plan if applicable to the position, with timely responsiveness and the ability to work beyond normal business hours when required.
