Police Officer-Certified

Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities including police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and other traditional and non-traditional related law enforcement activities. Works under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant, with additional supportive supervision from the command staff of the police department.

Minimum qualifications include being 19 years or older at the time of employment, possessing or being able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state, no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years, U.S. citizenship, ability to read and write the English language, and possession or ability to obtain Certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, National Incident Management System IS-700 Introduction to NIMS, IS-800 National Response Plan, IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command, and IS-200 Incident Command for Single Resources within one year of employment start date. A high school diploma or GED and proof of valid FDLE Law Enforcement Certification are also required.

Documentation must be provided at time of application, demonstrating applicant meets position requirements. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities include current State of Florida Basic Law Enforcement Certification, some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment, working knowledge of federal laws, state statutes, and local ordinances, considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Hallandale Police Department, working knowledge of First Responder and CPR techniques, some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below (see other requirements section), ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations, ability to perform work requiring good physical condition, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors, ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions quickly and objectively, sometimes under emergency situations, ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies and practices, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, ability to learn the City's geography, and ability to exercise discretion. Special requirements include a valid Florida Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state and ability to meet the Department's physical standards, if any.

Lateral transfers: Candidates with qualifying experience and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Police Officer certification may be eligible for a higher entry rate of pay based on their experience. Starting salary cannot exceed the years of experience minus one pay grade year.

To obtain veteran's preference, applicants MUST submit a copy of separation papers (DD214), Veterans' Preference Certification form and meet eligibility requirements as stipulated by the Florida Statutes.
