Jr ESTIMATOR (Entry Level Position) JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The basic function of the Jr Estimator is to help prepare complete estimates for assigned projects. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Jr Estimator reports to and is directly accountable to the Chief Estimator. REQUIREMENTS Education Required: Must have a Bachelors Degree in engineering or equivalent technical training. Preferred: Licensing / Registration / Certification N/A Experience Required: Preferred: Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Position requires knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control. Position requires the ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential. Physical Requirements The physical requirements may be stressful even thought a majority of the time is sitting. Body movements of turning the head and torso, bending and flexing the arms, wrists, and fingers are required. The senses required are being able to see and hear and having full power of speech. Mental Must be able to work under stressful deadline situations. Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing. Must be able to comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources. Advanced computer skills are desired. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Review and incorporate data from various sources to prepare estimate. Review proposed specifications and drawings for estimate. Maintain back-up figures for all estimates. Track awarded contracts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures. Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate. Help prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Maintain files to working documents as back-up for estimating figures. Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits; procuring material, etc. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction. MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE Incorporates data from various sources to prepare estimate. Reviews specifications and drawings thoroughly. Maintains back-up files for all estimates.
