Our client is a family-owned precision manufacturing company with over 40 years in business. They make custom metal and plastic parts through CNC machining, fabrication, welding, engineering, and assembly, taking projects from prototypes all the way through full production.

What makes them interesting is the variety—they support industries including medical, automotive, aerospace/aircraft, semiconductor, material handling, and flow-control. Their work can range from precision components to unique custom projects; they’ve even manufactured parking boots for New York City. This gives employees exposure to many different products instead of making the same part for one industry every day.

1. How does the work happen and what does a day look like?

For the CNC Mill Programmer/Set-Up role, employees are primarily programming, setting up, and running 4- and 5-axis CNC mills. There are some lathes in the facility, but Nova’s operation is mainly mills, and this position is specifically a mill role. They currently use GibbsCAM, although candidates with Mastercam experience are still considered.

Employees read blueprints, select tooling and fixtures, complete setups, make program adjustments, and inspect finished parts for quality. Because the company supports multiple industries and handles both prototypes and production work, there is good variety in the parts and projects rather than running the same job every day

1. What's the schedule?

. This is a 1st shift, Monday–Friday position working 7:00 AM–3:30 PM. It offers a consistent daytime schedule with no shift rotation listed. Overtime may be available depending on workload and production needs.

1. What's the tough part of the job?

The biggest challenge is the skill level required and keeping up with new technology entering the machining field. This is not an entry-level CNC role—employees need to be comfortable with 4- and 5-axis mills, programming, setups, blueprint reading, tooling, and tight tolerances. As equipment, software, and machining technology continue to evolve, someone needs to be willing to learn and adapt, even if they have years of experience.

The physical demands are fairly typical for machining, with employees on their feet and working around CNC equipment throughout the day. This is a better fit for someone who enjoys the technical side of machining and wants to continue developing their skills.
