The Variel at Woodland Hills is seeking an exceptional Memory Care Director to lead our specialized Memory Care neighborhood within one of Southern California's premier luxury senior living communities.

Opened in 2021, The Variel is a beautifully designed Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care community where hospitality and clinical excellence come together to create an extraordinary resident experience.

We're looking for a compassionate, energetic leader who believes every person living with dementia deserves dignity, purpose, and meaningful engagement. Position Summary

The Memory Care Director is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and daily operations of our Memory Care neighborhood. This leader ensures residents receive exceptional person-centered care while creating engaging therapeutic programming and supporting families throughout their journey.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Director of Nursing, this position oversees staffing, resident programming, dementia education, quality improvement, family communication, regulatory compliance, and census development.
What You'll Do
Lead an Exceptional Memory Care Program
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Memory Care neighborhood
  • Ensure residents receive individualized, person-centered care
  • Develop and continually enhance innovative dementia programming
  • Conduct resident life history and preference assessments
  • Create individualized service and engagement plans
Build and Inspire Great Teams
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop Memory Care team members
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching
  • Schedule and supervise staff while maintaining quality resident care
  • Provide hands-on leadership and model best practices in dementia care
  • Conduct new hire orientation and ongoing dementia education for all team members
Partner with Families
  • Build trusted relationships with residents and their families
  • Facilitate family education and caregiver support programs
  • Address concerns with compassion, professionalism, and timely follow-up
  • Foster open communication and collaboration
Deliver Clinical & Operational Excellence
  • Partner closely with the Director of Nursing to ensure quality resident care
  • Develop proactive approaches to managing dementia-related behaviors
  • Monitor quality indicators and implement continuous improvements
  • Assist with budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and department operations
  • Support occupancy growth through exceptional resident and family experiences

Requirements

Qualifications
Required
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) certification or the ability to obtain certification within the designated timeframe
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia
  • At least one year of leadership experience overseeing memory care or dementia programming
  • Experience developing and facilitating therapeutic activity programs
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build relationships with residents, families, physicians, team members, and community partners
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and participation in an on-call rotation
  • Valid driver's license meeting company driving requirements
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Education, Social Services, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) background
  • Experience in luxury senior living or healthcare
  • Knowledge of California RCFE regulations and dementia care best practices
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout the day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier transfers when appropriate
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and assist residents safely
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies
  • Ability to work in an environment that may include exposure to cleaning chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, and other healthcare-related conditions while following appropriate infection control procedures
