Director Of Field Operations

Supervises: Fresno/Kings/Madera Operations Manager, Special Teams Manager, BLS Manager, Scheduling Coordinator, QA/QI Coordinator, Clinical Manager Position Summary The Director of Field Operations provides strategic leadership and oversight of Field Operations to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality emergency medical services, according to the needs of the communities we serve and in compliance with contractual and legal requirements. The Director establishes clear performance expectations, ensures employees are properly trained and supported, promotes accountability, and recognizes strong performance. This position also leads operational improvement initiatives, workforce planning, regulatory compliance, service quality, employee engagement, and the efficient use of organizational resources. The Director of Field Operations works within the executive management group to coordinate companywide assessments, planning, and strategy. Essential Job Functions Assures Field Operations complies with the contractual and legal requirements. Emphasizes safety within operations. Appropriately represents American Ambulance and the Field Operations department within and outside the organization. Works to maximize effective unit hours in accordance with the System Status Plan. Assures appropriate investigation of all Field Operations incidents and provision of appropriate education, positive, and/or negative reinforcement. Establishes Field Operation’s performance reporting and plans and implements appropriate measures to maintain and improve performance. Reports performance to the COO and President, with appropriate analysis. Ensures cooperative and collaborative relationships between departments. Ensures regular communication within the department, including regular meetings of management and supervisory staff. Assures the development, compliance and enforcement of all policies, procedures, processes, and protocols of the American Ambulance Employee Handbook, Field Operations Standard Operating Procedures, Field Supervisor Standard Operating Procedures, and Fresno County Health Services Agency Policies and Procedures. Secondary Job Functions Responsible for proper use of all facilities and equipment, used or issued. Responsible to return all issued equipment in working condition at the end of employment or when requested. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Health Science, Emergency Medical Services, or a closely related field. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including at least three years in a management role with responsibility for personnel, operations, performance, and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex, 24/7 operations and manage competing operational priorities. Strong knowledge of workforce planning, budgeting, performance management, quality improvement, and policy implementation. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels. Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain accountability, resolve complex issues, and lead teams through organizational change. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Health Science, Emergency Medical Services, or a closely related field. Leadership experience within emergency medical services, healthcare, public safety, transportation, or another highly regulated operational environment. May purchase or authorize the purchase of inventoried Items. May authorize equipment maintenance/repairs up to $500. May purchase and be reimbursed for non-budgeted, non-inventoried expenses up to $100. May not contract or make financial commitments on behalf of the Company. Human Resources Authority May request hiring of employees for current/new positions. May discipline employees up to a disciplinary suspension. May approve schedules, AWR’s, changes to work week, excluding leaves of absence (LOA). LOAs must be referred to Human Resources. Communications Authority May not release employee-related information. May release call-related information pertaining to public record information. May release non-confidential Company-related information. May use the American Ambulance logo in communications. May use Company Letterhead May communicate with the media. Equipment Demands This job operates in an office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and fax machines. Additionally, this position must be able to function as a Paramedic. Days and hours of work are expected to be normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work, up to 12+ hours/day, may be required as job duties demand. Travel Local travel to various worksites is required. There may be occasional travel for conferences, seminars, and training.
