We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support a residential construction organization in Concord, California. This Long-term Contract position will focus on core accounting activities tied to active development projects, including close processes, cost tracking, and financial reporting. The role is well suited for someone who understands construction accounting and can work closely with operational teams to provide accurate, timely financial insight.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounting records for construction projects by maintaining detailed cost activity across communities, phases, lots, and cost categories.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to support accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Review project spending against budgets, identify cost variances, and share meaningful analysis with project and operations stakeholders.
• Process and reconcile construction-related payments, including draw activity, retention balances, and supporting lien documentation.
• Examine subcontractor billings, commitments, and change requests to confirm proper coding and financial accuracy.
• Record home sale transactions, including revenue recognition, cost of sales entries, and escrow-related reconciliations.
• Track work in progress, inventory, land, and development costs while assisting with valuation and cost-to-complete analysis.
• Contribute to financial reporting for management, lenders, investors, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance needs.
• Help improve accounting procedures, strengthen internal controls, and provide day-to-day support to less experienced accounting team members.• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with strong preference for candidates who have progressed within construction, homebuilding, or real estate development environments.
• Practical knowledge of general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close procedures.
• Hands-on experience with job cost accounting, work-in-progress tracking, retention accounting, and broader construction accounting practices.
• Required experience using Trueline/AS400 and familiarity with construction or homebuilding ERP platforms such as Yardi, Sage 300, Viewpoint/Vista, Foundation, BuilderMT, or similar systems.
• Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with pivot tables, lookup functions, and detailed account reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven project environment.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and other non-finance stakeholders.
