We work together to provide service excellence within Facilities Management Services (FMS) group, the steward of the Pittsburgh campus, dedicated to cost control and environmental sustainability./ph3Core Responsibilities Include:/h3ulliProvide direct assistance to staff working in various crafts including plumbers, pipefitters, A/C mechanics, carpenters, electricians, painters and masons./liliPerform work of a semi-skilled nature in a variety of maintenance and construction trades./liliOperate on and off-road utility vehicles and light trucks in support of assigned work./liliRequisition job parts and supplies./liliAbility to utilize smartphone and iPad/Tablet./liliDocuments work by completing electronic work orders on each job./liliPerform other duties as assigned./li/ulpAdaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work./ph3You Should Demonstrate:/h3ulliAbility to work various shifts, work overtime and availability for call out work./liliAbility to identify and effectively use hand tools including hammers, screwdrivers and wrenches. Basic knowledge of electricity and mechanical principles./liliEffective communication skills, be able to work effectively with other employees, and professionally manage interactions with challenging customers./liliAbility to work independently and make appropriate decisions as to when additional help is needed to correct issues./liliStrong communication skills and ability to perform clearly defined tasks with minimal direction./liliAttention to detail; keeping and maintaining accurate and detailed reports and records./liliAbility to move and work in confined spaces, up and down ladders and to work from ladders, scaffolding and bucket truck platform/liliAbility to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead; Occasionally work outside during inclement conditions./li/ulh3Qualifications:/h3ulliEducation: High School Diploma or GED required./liliRequired Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience relevant to the role, with one year sub journeyman (i.e. apprentice or helper experience), in electrical, plumbing, HVAC or structural trades required./liliPreferred Experience: Maintenance experience in an institutional (college, university, hospital, etc.) setting preferred. Formal training in electrical/mechanical/structural systems preferred. Other certifications (e.g. lift certification, scaffolding, fall protection, forklift) preferred./li/ulh3Requirements:/h3ulliSuccessful Background Check/liliValid PA Drivers License/liliMotor Vehicle Records (conducted annually)/liliFitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam/liliPre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen/liliPA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)/li/ulh3Additional Information:/h3ulliThis is a full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA./liliSponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
