Mechanical AssemblerThis role focuses on assembling large window units and related components using mechanical skills, hand and power tools, and precise measurement. You will work in sub-assembly and general assembly areas, building, sealing, and finishing units made from large panes of glass, sheet metal, and steel frames. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent quality checks, and the flexibility to support multiple stages of the production process.ResponsibilitiesAssemble window units and components in sub-assembly and general assembly areas using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical techniques.Install metal brackets, fasteners, clips, and other hardware onto window units, ensuring secure and accurate fitting.Use caulking guns to seal windows and fill gaps, following established procedures and standards.Perform testing on caulking and sealing products to verify proper sealing and overall integrity of the units.Paint ends of materials as required and work with insulation materials such as large foam pads, ensuring correct installation.Apply netting and wrapping around final units, ensuring they are properly secured and protected for handling and shipment.Inspect units throughout the assembly process to identify and correct flaws in assembly or final manufacturing.Work safely and precisely with very large pieces of glass, sheet metal, and steel frames, handling units that are approximately waist-high and up to 30 feet long.Stand and walk for the duration of an 8-hour shift while performing assembly tasks on the production line.Support sub-assembly tasks during production slowdowns or when waiting for units in earlier phases of the workflow.Retrieve materials and participate in unit testing in the yard or testing booth as needed, including going outside to gather materials.Read and interpret blueprints and use tape measures accurately to ensure components are assembled to specification.Use power tools such as drills and other mechanical equipment safely and effectively in daily work.Meet daily production goals for the assigned department and assembly line, contributing to overall production targets.Participate in cross-training across various areas of the production process and perform different tasks as needed without complaint.Follow quality assurance and quality control procedures, including inspection, fitting, and troubleshooting of assembly issues.Respond positively to feedback from supervisors and team members and adjust work practices as needed.Demonstrate flexibility by moving to different areas, including insulation areas, and wearing protective clothing such as Tyvek suits when required to keep dust off clothing.Work collaboratively in a team environment, communicating effectively and maintaining a positive, can-do attitude.Essential SkillsMinimum 3 years of experience in a mechanical role, such as mechanical assembly, fabrication, fitting, construction, installation, or similar hands-on mechanical work.2–3 years of experience in the mechanical field, preferably in contractor-type roles.1–2 years of experience using hand and power tools and tape measures in an assembly, mechanical, or construction environment.1–2 years of experience reading and working from blueprints.Proficiency in reading a tape measure and using it accurately; candidates must be fully comfortable with tape measure usage.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with large units, glass, sheet metal, and steel frames.Experience with power tools, including drills and other mechanical tools, in a manufacturing, construction, or home improvement setting.Ability to perform quality assurance, inspection, fitting, troubleshooting, and basic quality control tasks.Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for an 8-hour shift in a busy manufacturing environment.Strong listening skills, a positive approach to work, and a consistent can-do attitude.Proven ability to accept and apply feedback constructively, supported by references.Flexibility to move between different departments and tasks, including insulation and sub-assembly areas, as production needs change.Basic computer skills with at least 6 months of experience in an assembly-type role using hand and power tools.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in environments where large-unit assembly is common, such as refrigeration, industrial equipment, or large structural assemblies.Construction or home improvement experience that involves frequent use of hand and power tools and working from measurements and plans.Experience with construction management, installation, and inspection activities in a mechanical or construction setting.Familiarity with troubleshooting mechanical or assembly-related issues on a production line.Demonstrated flexibility in previous roles, showing willingness to take on different tasks and support various areas as needed.Strong track record of teamwork, reliability, and meeting production or project goals.Comfort wearing protective gear such as safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and Tyvek suits when required.Why Work Here?The organization offers a supportive, family-oriented culture where leadership actively invests in employees and recognizes their contributions. Many products and materials are stored both inside and outside, so some tasks, such as material handling or unit testing, may require working outdoors. The work involves large-piece assembly, handling units that are typically waist-high and up to 30 feet long, and requires precision and care when working with glass and metal. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of weekday overtime. When Saturday work occurs, it is typically because a specific line is behind schedule, and overtime is mandatory for team members in that line or department. Employees must be comfortable standing and walking for an entire 8-hour shift and working around loud equipment. Safety is a priority, with the use of safety glasses and steel-toe boots, and in some areas, Tyvek suits may be worn to keep dust off clothing when working with foam insulation pads. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
