The Prospective Peer Trainee is a paid training opportunity designed for individuals with lived experience related to recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges who are interested in following a career path toward working at BHSN as a provisional or fully-certified New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCSP/NYCPS-P), a Certified Peer Recovery Advocate (CRPA/CRPA-P), Family Peer Advocate (FPA), or Youth Peer Advocate (YPA). The trainee will participate in required certification training while gaining access to support with the application provisional certification. This role is part of a workforce development initiative aimed at building and enhancing the peer support workforce at BHSN. Generous benefits, including personalized health coverage, paid time off, and holiday pay Working within our community, making a real impact, working alongside passionate colleagues Accessible leadership team, coaching for your growth, and ample training opportunities As a rapidly growing organization, there are endless opportunities to grow within the organization Community discounts, loan forgiveness & more What your day might look like: Completes required CPS/CRPA/FPA/YPA training requirements as appropriate to the desired role and as approved by the Agency, including certification coursework and/or related documentation Completes and submits certification application documentation in accordance with the timeline and hours authorized by the position supervisor Completes required internship or fieldwork hours as part of certification Meet all attendance and participation requirements for the specified training program(s) Documents training progress and experience(s) as required Adheres to program policies, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality standards Participates in any-and-all onboarding activities required by the Agency Your skills and qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required Willingness to participate in a Training Certification and Employment Agreement required Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery required Ability to positively interact with persons with mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities, their family members, agency staff, and community members required Demonstrated commitment to personal recovery required Participation in the MH/SUD treatment process or an alternative recovery process required Demonstrated ability to access community services/supports to initiate and maintain recovery from MH/SUD required Willingness and ability to complete peer certification training (CRPA or CPS) and provisional certification application required Interest in working with BHSN as a provisional and/or fully certified CPS, CRPA, FPA, or FYA required Strong interpersonal and communication skills required Basic computer skills for documentation and training participation required Valid driver’s license required BHSN is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and supports Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in its hiring and employment practices so that every team member can feel like they belong and be their authentic self to thrive in their personal and professional lives.
