Director of Development

Director of Development Salary: $80,000 - $98,307 (Permanent – Full-time, Exempt, FLSA). Location: VC for University Advancement – Assoc VC for Development. Classification: EHRA. Position Overview This position is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for an assigned group of prospects, including individuals and corporations/foundations, with a focus on major gift activity; identification and qualification of new prospects; and managing assigned fundraising projects. The mission of the division is to expand the University’s relationship within the community for the purposes of increasing both the financial and Human Resources of the University. It provides operating structure and central administrative support for the Vice Chancellor and the departmental units. Responsibilities Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects for major gifts. Identify and qualify new prospects. Manage assigned fundraising projects. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree and related experience required. Experience in higher education or non‑profit fundraising, or sales or other relevant experience. Ability to work independently and in teams, meet high goals, and interact effectively with alumni, friends, faculty and staff in a comprehensive research university setting. Willingness to travel and work weekends. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree. Seven years or more of related experience. Skills and experience relevant to securing major gifts, including front‑line fundraising, financial advising, estate planning and sales. A strategic, entrepreneurial, and innovative approach to fundraising. Knowledge of contemporary philanthropy and the available philanthropic vehicles. Proven ability to self‑motivate and work both independently and collaboratively. Capacity to communicate with a wide variety of individuals and inspire them to support programming across the University. Understanding of complex institutions and appreciation for diverse audiences and communities. Remote / Hybrid Work This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C.
