Maintenance Supervisor

Maintenance SupervisorUnder the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a maintenance department and the supervision of a team responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of fleet. Ensure all repairs and/or maintenance to equipment (diesel fleet, alternate fuel, containers, and other heavy-duty equipment) is performed in accordance with Company safety and compliance standards, and with all federal/state regulations.Key Responsibilities:Oversee the daily planning and scheduling of all repair work to optimize productivity. Follow up on repairs being made, perform repairs as needed and appraise performance of shop personnel.Supervise, coach, train, evaluate employee performance or behavior; provide input into hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, compensation, and promotion decisionsConduct daily shop huddles and fleet walksPerform inspections of outside repairs to ensure all work was properly completed in accordance with Company's safety and compliance procedures and federal/state regulations; follow up where appropriateTrack issues and conduct Quality Control Inspections (QCI's)Plan and schedule repairs in M5 planner and procure all parts for successful plan.Analyze the quality and effectiveness of the work performedOversee repair diagnostics on more complex mattersConduct road test on equipment as necessaryAssist with inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and part levels are maintained and purchases are within budgetReview and approve expenses that are within approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to managerMaintain knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on heavy equipment and vehicles used by Company, both on site and on the roadUpdate and submit required reports in a timely mannerManage related administrative matters for team, including payroll, employee records, records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, recording of all information into Company maintenance softwareMaintain open communication with other departments and leadership to ensure fluid and effective operationsAssist in preparation and submittal of budgetIntroduce departmental goals and performance objectives established by District and Corporate leadershipEnsure the cleanliness of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programsConduct and/or attend periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote morale, productivity, and efficiencyPerform other job responsibilities as assignedNight Shift - Primary work schedule will be second shift coverageRequirements:High School diploma or GEDValid Driver's LicenseThree (3) or more years of heavy diesel truck maintenance experienceOne (1) or more years of lead technician or supervisory experienceKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to supervise, coach, counsel, discipline, and train employeesExcellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsAbility to communicate effectively with internal and external customersStrong work ethic, demonstrating integrity, trust, and maintain confidentialityAbility to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a fast-paced, team environmentAbility to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documentsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlinesAbility to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objectsAbility to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standingAbility to make simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wristsAbility to judge the distance between equipment and an objectFlexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvementKnowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulationsKnowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehiclesKnowledge of proper lifting techniquesFull set of hand tools required.Knowledge of welding, compactor repair, air brake inspection, vehicle inspections.Working Conditions: The Maintenance Supervisor may work in various weather conditions. May be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, such as exhaust fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel, and other dangerous and/or toxic substances or chemicals. Working around moving parts/objects, vehicles, machinery with moving parts.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:Ability to drive a pickup or heavy truck, equipped with a 5-7 speed manual shift transmission or automatic transmission, climbing in and out of the truck cabEmployee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, sit and standContinuous riding in a vehicle, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pullingWork utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a step stool as necessaryPhysical ability to lift at least 50 pounds as needed and maintain steady work pace
