Material Handler Naugatuck, CT, US 30+ days ago Requisition ID: 1012 Culture Fresh Foods, Inc Job Title: Material Handler Department: Production Reports To: Production Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Company Overview Culture Fresh Foods, Inc is a dairy and non‑dairy processing facility headquartered in Naugatuck, CT. The facility produces a wide range of dairy and plant‑based spoonable and spreadable cultured and extended shelf‑life products for private label, co‑pack and under its own brand. Position Summary The Material Handler is an integral member of the production team, responsible for staging and managing materials used in the manufacturing process. This position requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety protocols (SQF, HACCP, etc.) and a strong focus on organization, accuracy, and safety. The Material Handler works closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations and timely delivery of packaging and ingredient materials, and reports directly to the Production Supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accurately stage and deliver materials to production areas using handheld scanners and inventory systems. Verify label and packaging information against printed documentation to ensure accuracy. Remove and return unused materials to designated areas, including hold or disposal zones. Support waste reduction by properly disposing of corrugate, plastics, and other materials. Prepare materials and ingredients for upcoming production runs and label/stage accordingly. Collaborate with the Logistics Director to ensure adequate inventory levels and maintain inventory accuracy. Maintain clean, organized material storage and staging areas through sweeping, mopping, and general housekeeping. Accurately complete and submit documentation related to materials handling and line clearance. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Production Supervisor. SQF Requirements Maintain good safety and food quality by completing job tasks and keeping the work area sanitary. Wear food safety and sanitation clothing and PPE. Conform to personal hygiene regulations. Report food safety problems to authorized personnel. Ensure all programs are upheld and documentation is current. Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED); additional training or certification in logistics, warehouse management, or supply chain is a plus. Prior experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred. Familiarity with safety, sanitation, and quality protocols in food production. Proficient in basic computer use and handheld scanning devices. Valid driver’s license. Ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment. Proficient in using warehouse management systems; experience with SAP Business One or similar ERP system strongly preferred. Skilled in the use of handheld scanners and other warehouse technology. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Must pass a company pre‑employment background, physical, and drug screen prior to commencing work. Physical Requirements Regularly required to stand, use hands, stretch, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 100 feet. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision; must have full range of body motion. Must be able to work in cold environments (~35°F) for extended periods and operate a forklift. Working Environment Regular exposure to work near moving mechanical parts and wet/humid conditions with risk of electrical shock. Exposure to cold storage, loud machinery, dust, and variable outdoor conditions. Potential contact with cleaning chemicals and industrial equipment.
