Why This Role Matters We are looking for a skilled, hands‑on Facilities Manager to keep our campus sound, safe, and well‑maintained. You will care for three principal buildings — a 600‑seat church, a parish center, and a ministry center — along with a large patio, a prayer garden, and an extensive parking lot. This is a part‑time, technical role. Your focus is repairs, building systems, vendor and subcontractor management, life‑safety compliance, and the specialized, equipment‑based cleaning that keeps a busy campus in top condition — floor stripping and waxing, power‑washing sidewalks and exteriors, and the periodic deep work that goes beyond daily upkeep. Routine daily cleaning and event setup are handled by our steward team, led by the Lead Steward, with whom you’ll coordinate closely. What You’ll Do Maintenance & Repairs Perform hands‑on repairs across all three buildings — plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, fixtures, doors, and locks. Run a preventive‑maintenance program for building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, irrigation) so problems are caught before they interrupt worship or events. Fix what you can yourself, and know when a job calls for a licensed trade. Specialized & Seasonal Work Handle the periodic, equipment‑based cleaning that requires skill and specialized tools — floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, power‑washing walkways, patios, steps, and building exteriors, and high or hard‑to‑reach cleaning. For major liturgical seasons (Christmas, Easter, and others), handle the heavier, elevated work of preparing the church — moving and installing large displays, trees, and arrangements, safely securing them, and managing lighting and storage — under the direction of the pastor and liturgy team. (Routine daily cleaning is carried out by the steward team.) Vendors, Safety & Projects Serve as the parish’s point of contact for service contracts and outside vendors — gardening, HVAC, fire alarm, fire safety, and security — and oversee subcontractors on larger or specialized jobs. Own campus health and life‑safety compliance, including the heightened requirements of a 600‑seat assembly space (fire‑alarm and fire‑safety inspections, clear exits, emergency readiness, record‑keeping). Coordinate with the Lead Steward on campus readiness, and support capital‑campaign groundwork by assessing building conditions and flagging needs early. A Day in the Life On a typical shift you might repair a dripping sink and hang shelving in the parish center, then meet the fire‑alarm vendor for a scheduled inspection and log it. Another day you strip and re‑wax the parish hall floor ahead of an event, power‑wash the church steps and entry walkways, and troubleshoot an HVAC issue with your contractor. Before you leave, you walk the campus with the Lead Steward to plan the week’s readiness and deep‑cleaning schedule. You handle the skilled and technical work; the steward team keeps the daily upkeep. The pay range for this position is $25.00–$34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a part‑time, non‑exempt (overtime‑eligible) position; benefit eligibility follows Archdiocese of Los Angeles policy based on scheduled hours. The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. Requirements 3+ years of hands‑on maintenance, facilities, or skilled‑trades experience, with genuine general handyman ability (plumbing, electrical basics, carpentry, repairs). Experience with equipment‑based cleaning (floor machines, buffers, pressure washers), or the ability to learn it quickly. Comfort managing outside vendors and service contracts and coordinating subcontractors. Excellent interpersonal skills; you communicate clearly and warmly with staff, ministries, parishioners, and vendors alike. Valid California driver’s license and reliable means of getting around the campus and to suppliers. Ability to clear and maintain Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements (background check, fingerprinting, VIRTUS training). Preferred Experience across multiple buildings or a campus environment. Familiarity with building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and preventive‑maintenance programs. Familiarity with fire and life‑safety requirements for assembly occupancies (large gathering spaces). Experience working in a church, school, nonprofit, or community setting. Physical Requirements This is a physically active role involving repair work and equipment‑based cleaning. You should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, kneel, bend, reach overhead, stand and walk for extended periods, operate floor and pressure‑washing equipment, and safely use hand and power tools.
