Job Purpose

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator supports the development and maintenance of a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors. This position serves as the primary support to the EHS Manager for the Mega Distribution Center (MDC) and National Parts Center (NPC) operations.

The EHS Coordinator is responsible for executing day-to-day environmental, health, and safety activities, driving compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, supporting injury and incident prevention efforts, and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization. This role works closely with operations leadership and employees to ensure EHS programs, policies, and procedures are effectively implemented and sustained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, observations, and workplace assessments.
• Partner with site leadership to complete weekly Safety Gemba walks and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Develop, schedule, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs.
• Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring activities, including noise dosimetry, sound level assessments, airborne exposure monitoring, and related testing.
• Promote employee engagement by discussing health, safety, and environmental concerns with employees and supervisors.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and drive EHS performance metrics.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid supplies, and emergency response equipment.
• Maintain records and databases related to training, fit testing, medical surveillance, industrial hygiene monitoring, PPE programs, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Coordinate with occupational health providers, plant nursing resources, and external laboratories regarding medical surveillance programs and required testing.
• Conduct respirator fit testing (if required) and support respiratory protection program administration.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems, chemical inventories, and hazard communication requirements.
• Maintain uniform and locker room programs.

• Support incident investigations and root cause analyses and drive prompt completion of corrective and preventive actions.

• Participate in and support employee safety committees and engagement initiatives.
• Coordinate site recognition and safety incentive programs.

• Provide first aid and emergency response support, as trained and required.

• Conduct hygiene wipe testing and evaluate housekeeping effectiveness.

• Develop, revise, and implement EHS policies, procedures, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
• Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), ergonomic assessments, PPE assessments, risk assessments, and other safety evaluations as needed.
• Support the Environmental Compliance Specialist with all MDC/NPC environmental compliance programs, including waste management activities, permits, no-exposure certifications, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Support the Health & Safety Specialist with all MDC/NPC OSHA recordkeeping, regulatory reporting, and data tracking.
• Identify compliance gaps, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities and promptly communicate findings to the EHS Manager and site leadership.
• Travel between assigned facilities as required.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the EHS Manager.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Occupational Safety, or a related technical or scientific discipline preferred.
• Equivalent professional experience demonstrating strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, successful implementation of safety programs, and a proven safety performance record may be considered in lieu of formal education. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental health and safety, industrial safety, industrial hygiene in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or a related field required.
• A degree in EHS or a related discipline may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
• Relevant professional certifications such as OHST, ASP, CSP, CHMM, or similar credentials are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general environmental compliance requirements.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to conduct training and present information to both small and large groups.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
