About the Position

The level of care is PCU. The unit has 55 beds. Patient population primarily includes adults, with rare pediatric cases for patients aged 15 and older. The RN to patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights. Shifts are 12 hours long, running from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Navy blue scrubs are required for nurses, while CNA scrubs are ceil blue. Nursing assistant support is available. There is a charge nurse on the unit. Unit support staff includes educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness. Common drips and medications used include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin. Additional competencies required include telemetry knowledge. Specialty equipment available includes mechanical lifts in every other room. The unit may experience staffing challenges. Floating to medical-surgical areas may occur based on highest need. Patient experience focuses on hourly rounding and responsiveness. Successful candidates are effective in managing daily operations. The unit operates as a close-knit group, providing support to each other. The hospital retains the right to cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting. Trauma level is 1.
