About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with intermediate care and downgraded patients Description: Unit supports patients who require intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours. The unit heavily supports thoracic patients, electrophysiology, catheterization lab, and structural heart. Common diagnoses include CVAs, CHF, atrial fibrillation, and other cardiac and vascular-related conditions. RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and diltiazem. There is a charge nurse on each shift, but it is rare for them to take an assignment. Patient care technicians support the nurses with a ratio of 1:18. A Hospitalist and Intensivist are on-site 24/7, with cardiology on call after hours. Respiratory therapists are present in the unit 24/7. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP. Remote telemetry technicians monitor patients, but RNs must read and interpret their own strips. The manager schedules shifts with no block or self-scheduling available. Weekends are required every other week. Staff may float to all same-level and lower levels of acuity. Scrub color is navy blue. RNs should anticipate tailored unit-specific orientation depending on their experience. Requests for time off should be provided upfront. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The electronic charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. This role is in an acute care setting. The trauma level is 1.
