Expanded Learning Time (ELT) High School Student Intern Department of Expanded Learning Time 2025-2026 School Year Position Summary The Expanded Learning Time (ELT) High School Student Intern works alongside the Explorers’ Group Leader by providing support with the delivery of engaging and academically enriching activities for Framingham Public Schools students in grades K-5. ELT High School Interns are expected to assist the group leader in facilitating high quality project based learning activities during before and after school programming, and also support the healthy social and emotional development of all students. Additional duties may include assisting with drop off and pick up, distributing snacks, managing program materials, and classroom management. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working with elementary school age children, is flexible and adaptable to a fast paced working environment, and can serve as a positive role model to all students.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Not Applicable Training And Experience Passion and interest in working with children in an academic, recreational, or athletic setting, previous experience is preferred. Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred. Skills And Ability Ability to work with diverse populations of students, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Strong capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with children, staff, families, and supervisors. Capacity to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Willingness to engage in positive, proactive and restorative conflict resolution processes. May be required to work at multiple schools; reliable transportation is necessary. Must be reliable, on time, organized, and ready to assume all duties and responsibilities with a high level of professionalism. Ability to receive constructive feedback and willingness to learn new skills to meet the needs of students and families. Familiarity with Google Suite and other technologies as required by the program. Essential Duties And Responsibilities In collaboration with the ELT Group Leader, assist with facilitating all program activities and supporting seamless transitions between activities. Inspire students to set and achieve ambitious academic and personal goals. Serve as a role model for students by exemplifying the highest standards of professionalism in accordance with FPS core values. Build positive and appropriate relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors. Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students, ensuring full inclusion of students with special needs and multilingual learners. Attend and support family engagement activities and other special events as needed. Attend meetings, trainings, and/or professional development as required by the department. Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the Coordinator. Physical Working Conditions May be required to work at multiple schools. Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building. Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. It is occasionally required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e., books, school supplies, etc.). Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and use hand strength to grasp tools. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Must communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person, via email, and on the telephone. Must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and provide instruction. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. Must interact with students, parents, and staff and meet multiple demands. While most of the workday is spent inside, must spend time outdoors for recess and special activities. May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens. May receive injuries from aggressive students. May require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior. Reports To ELT Site Coordinator Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly). Terms Of Employment This is a ten (10) month seasonal position during the school year. Covered under Framingham School Committee Contract. The District reserves the right to transfer personnel as needed. Employees may be requested to work at different sites as needed. Program Schedule Elementary Program Schedule Days - must be available at least 2 days per week. Hours AM Program: 7am-9am (King, Stapleton, Barbieri, Brophy, Potter Road, Hemenway, Harmony Grove, Dunning) or 7am-8am (McCarthy) PM Program: 3pm-5:30pm* (King, Stapleton, Barbieri, Brophy, Potter Road, Hemenway, Harmony Grove, Dunning) or 2pm-5:30pm* (McCarthy). Some sites may offer additional hours as needed. Background Check and Training As our programs receive funding through the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF), all Employees and volunteers must complete a background record check (BRC) through the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) as required by federal law. Starting in May 2024, all staff in EEC child care programs are required to complete the new EEC Essentials 2.0 training course. New hires must finish EEC Essentials 2.0 before they begin working with children. Staff in EEC-licensed and funded programs will need to complete an annual EEC Essentials refresher package. Currently, this training does not apply to Little Explorers at Juniper Hill.
