System Engineer

Location: Irving, TX (50% in office / 50% in the field) Department: Service (Operations) Reports to: Service Manager FLSA Status: Non - Exempt SUMMARY The System Engineer performs maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and configuration of networks, systems, servers, and equipment across the designated region. The System Engineer has the technical aptitude to resolve software concerns, as well as hardware repairs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Configure and deploy new hardware and system equipment, including servers, PCs, SKIDATA hardware, and intelligent controllers, ensuring seamless field integration. Prepare and implement software updates, including version releases, service packs, and hotfixes for both MS and SKIDATA applications. Perform system maintenance and service, addressing hardware, software, and network functionality to ensure optimal performance. Diagnose and resolve system failures at the device level, conducting in-depth troubleshooting and repairs. Adjust, repair, and optimize SKIDATA equipment, ensuring reliability and efficiency. Provide technical support via helpdesk, delivering remote assistance to technicians and customers. Conduct training sessions for service staff, equipping them with necessary tools and guidance for effective operations. Lead project installations, network integrations, and system configurations, ensuring seamless deployment and functionality. Maintain clear and professional communication with customers, on‑site representatives, and service management teams. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards, while accurately tracking time and inventory using digital management tools. Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS This is an experienced level position within the Service Department. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be at least 21 years old, with a valid driver’s license; have and maintain a driving record clean of any major or numerous violations. Must be able to drive to field / customer locations to perform field work Working knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, SQL, Windows 7 and 10 and network and firewall configurations. Must possess aptitude to learn new technologies and lead a group of people in different situations The ability to work independently while keeping others informed of your processes and progress via multiple avenues – including ERP System, email, and/or phone Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel and PowerPoint Must be able to complete SKIDATA technical certified training courses. Specific product/equipment and software training supplied by SKIDATA. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent and two (2) years of training/experience in related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Driver's License, in state of residence. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Employees must meet physical demands essential to the role, including frequent driving, standing, walking, and manual tasks requiring hand dexterity. The job involves lifting/moving 50+ pounds, working at heights, and assembling small parts. Strong vision, balance, and stamina are required for prolonged standing and the use of various tools, including construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing instruments such as oscilloscopes and ammeters. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or automobiles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud. TRAVEL There may be occasional travel outside of the employee’s regular region; travel may be by airplane or vehicle and will be planned with as much advanced notice as possible. SCHEDULE Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional weekend availability upon advance notice. Flexibility is required based on business needs, which may include overtime, weekend shifts, or extended hours beyond the standard schedule. Technicians participate in an on‑call rotation one week per month.
