Your role at a glance The Data Center Technician provides a working level of data center knowledge and is responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. The technician maintains and follows the processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost‑effective way, ensuring that data center problems are identified and repaired quickly, contractors deliver quality services, and internal customer demands are met. Key Roles and Responsibilities Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies. Mechanical responsibilities: chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems such as rooftop units, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems. Electrical responsibilities: electrical/critical power distribution from the utility/generator main switchgear through the UPS systems to the customer load. Fire Life Safety responsibilities: wet sprinkler systems and pre‑action sprinkler systems and their associated detection devices. Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters. Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of processes. Inspect parts for surface defects and install electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies using hand tools. Align, fit or assemble component parts using hand or power tools. Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems: mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and building monitoring and control. Analyze systems to ensure best practices for both internal and external customers; provide feedback to relevant teams on the effectiveness of existing standards and processes. Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades; track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance programme. Ensure data centre operates at maximum operational efficiency, recommending new technologies and improving overall efficiency and cost reduction. Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting events and determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems; perform other duties as assigned. Ensure regular and predictable attendance, essential to satisfactory performance. Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data centre environment, including but not limited to electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAHs, pre‑action sprinkler systems and knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and related building codes. Familiarity with industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA and state regulations) and data trending/tracking analysis. Proficiency with PC‑based integrated critical monitoring systems. Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems: chilled water systems, large centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, VFDs and pumps, HVAC equipment, CRAC/CRAHs, humidification systems, water heaters, air filters, BMS and PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generator systems, fuel/ oil systems, and electrical generation and distribution. Strong communication skills, both written and oral; ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work. Ability to learn quickly, address issues during normal working hours or after hours, and operate in a rigorous process‑driven team environment. Problem‑solving, multi‑task, and logical analysis skills. Ability to operate hand and machine tools, electrical tools such as a multimeter or infrared camera, and a forklift. Comfort in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities; ability to work nights, holidays, and some weekends. Academic Qualifications and Certifications Relevant high school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant advanced qualification or equivalent work‑related experience required. Relevant certifications: CPR/First Aid and NFPA 70E (can be gained during employment); OSHA approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire. Required Experience Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a data centre facilities environment. Experience in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data centre, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant). Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (see list above). Compensation Pay Range This position requires work on site at a data center facility and may require use of a personal mobile device. A monthly stipend will be provided to cover expenses incurred for using a personal device, if applicable. NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. The hourly base salary for this position is $27.80 - $41.60 and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with local state and federal "Wage and Hour" requirements. All regular full‑time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance.
