Position Summary The Mediator is responsible for working with the Lead Mediator to provide mediation services to students and staff district-wide. The Mediator is also responsible in assisting the Lead Mediator to reach out to students, parents, teachers and other school personnel and provide training in the techniques of conflict mediation. Essential Functions & Responsibilities The responsibilities listed below reflect the primary duties of the position; the omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the role. Additional responsibilities that are similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position may be assigned as needed to meet program, legal, or operational needs. Assist in processing mediation requests/referrals; scheduling mediations, coordinating and conducting mediation sessions, monitoring agreements, maintaining records, and issuing reports on services Oversee and support peer mediators during mediation sessions Assist in creating and delivering presentations regarding mediation and conflict resolution In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, provide individual and small group services relative to mediation In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, conduct and share research studies which determine the nature of conflicts and analyze factors attitudes and morale Assist in the exploration of grant application Along with the Lead Mediator, serve as a resource for Somerville Public Schools crisis situations and help coordinate professional mediator response as needed In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, support K-12 mediation initiatives, and oversee peer mediation programming at SPS In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, coordinate with community agencies and others with related responsibilities Perform other duties as may.be assigned Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Strength Requirements: may involve lifting or carrying items up to 10 lbs Posture & Movement Requirements: Frequently Sitting, Standing Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive written information (near vision); Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Mediation Certificate required.
