Recruitment Number 23-0512 The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is recruiting to fill vacancies at Correctional Facilities and Intake Service Center on Hawaii Island. Social Worker or Human Services Professional III Level $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR‑20, Step D to I). Social Worker or Human Services Professional IV Level $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR‑22, Step D to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant’s qualifications, and other relevant factors. Job Overview Social Workers and Human Services Professionals seek to improve the overall quality of life of people within the context of their environment through remediation and prevention of their problems, and by improving accessibility, accountability and coordination of service delivery among a variety of professionals and agencies tasked with providing appropriate services to clients. These professionals work in hospitals, social service agencies, schools, correctional facilities, and programs concerned with substance abuse, aging, and family violence. Roles and Responsibilities Assess the needs of clients and develop and implement service plans. Provide direct services and monitor, evaluate, and adjust service plans. Work with a full range of client cases, including psychosocial, physical/medical, and environmental problems. Type A – Independent Worker Fully independent in assessments, service planning, and direct service delivery. Handles a broad spectrum of cases with clearly defined needs and available services. Type B – Non-Independent Worker Partial independence; many cases involve complex or resistant clients. Utilizes established policies, procedures, and casework skills. Work is monitored by more experienced co‑workers or supervisors. BASIC EDUCATION

Social Worker: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from an accredited program (Council on Social Work Education) or a doctoral degree accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Human Services Professional: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral sciences.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Social Worker (Bachelor of Social Work): 1 year for Level III; 2 years for Level IV. Social Worker (Master of Social Work): 0 years for Level III; 1 year for Level IV. Social Worker (Ph.D.): 0 years required. Human Services Professional: 1.5 years for Level III; 2.5 years for Level IV. Substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements apply. Other Requirements Drug screening and intensive background checks are required for all appointees and those conditionally offered or approved for the position. PREA Requirement Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or where the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
