About the Role
The Company is in search of a Vice President of Government Affairs to spearhead its congressional engagement strategy. This pivotal role demands a leader with a proven track record in either the Democratic or Republican congressional ecosystem, who can adeptly operate in a bipartisan environment. The successful candidate will be tasked with translating the organization's policy priorities into legislative and executive action, cultivating relationships with key policymakers, and establishing the organization as a trusted resource. While a background in biosecurity is not mandatory, the role requires the ability to quickly master complex scientific and technical issues and translate them into pragmatic, politically viable strategies. The Vice President will also be responsible for building and leading a high-performing government affairs team, contributing to crisis preparedness, and ensuring the organization is positioned to respond rapidly to emerging threats. Candidates for this role should have 10-15+ years' of relevant experience, with a strong preference for those who have served in senior roles on Capitol Hill or have equivalent experience in the executive branch. Deep relationships and political fluency within the congressional ecosystem are essential, as is a sophisticated understanding of legislative processes and the ability to build support across party lines. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills, capable of distilling complex issues into clear, compelling arguments. A builder mentality, passion for national security, and the ability to lead a government affairs function in an entrepreneurial environment are also key attributes. A bachelor's degree is required, with an advanced degree being preferred.
