The Massachusetts Veterans Homes are independent state agencies that organizationally report to the Secretary of the Executive Office of Veterans Services (EOVS). The Veterans Homes are owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and address the needs of a wide variety of veterans, including long‑term care and domiciliary services meeting the veteran residents’ care and psychosocial needs. The care and services provided by the Veterans’ Homes are supported by a staff of approximately 450, representing physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, aides, social workers, recreation therapist, physical and occupational therapy, speech language pathology, educators, building trades, dietary, housekeeping, managers, support staff, consultants and contractors. The Massachusetts Veterans Home (MVH) at Chelsea is currently seeking four (4) motivated Kitchen Services Worker I to join our team. The MVH at Chelsea is a long‑term care and independent living domiciliary facility. The Kitchen Services Worker I works in the kitchen serving meals, preparing simple meals, dishes, and special diets according to instructions. In this role, you will also clean the kitchen, wash utensils and implements, and ensure the safe, sanitary, and timely functioning of the Dietary department. We are seeking candidates able to work effectively on a team, through attention to detail and leading by example. To be successful in this role, you must be able to relate to a culturally diverse workforce and to adapt to workplace changes efficiently. You must also be able to multitask. The Kitchen Services Worker I must be committed to providing excellent customer service in a professional manner, ensuring the highest standards in food quality and safety for our veteran residents. Duties & Responsibilities Assists Cooks by cleaning, cutting and otherwise processing food for cooking and serving Sets up cafeteria service line with hot and cold foods for meal period service Prepares coffee and other beverages for meal service period Assists in preparing patient trays by putting on menus, silverware, condiments, dishes, foods, etc. Assists in preparing bread and desserts for service Serves food on cafeteria line Cleans all food service equipment in area of work Returns soiled carts and trays to dish room Scrapes and prepares trays, dishes and silverware for washing Runs dishwasher machine; loads and unloads dish machine and properly stores dishes, trays, silverware, etc. Washes pots, pans, dishes and other food service equipment which cannot go through dish machine Cleans walls, floors, kitchen equipment and mobile trucks in kitchen areas, cafeterias, refrigerators, freezers, storerooms, and food service office Takes tray carts and food trucks to other floors and buildings Attends applicable in‑services and training sessions Sets up food for simple routine functions Inspect assigned areas to determine that work has been performed according to established procedures Prepare foods for special diets by following instructions on dietary cards Prepare and cook simple dishes such as sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. Performs other duties as assigned related to food service needs Qualifications First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
