The Senior Accountant will support the preparation and review of the company's 10-K, 10-Q, and other SEC filings, with a focus on real estate-specific financial statement areas including investment properties, debt, joint ventures, and REIT-related disclosures. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines within a fast-paced, quarter-driven reporting cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of the company's 10-K, 10-Q, and other periodic SEC filings, including financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A support
- Prepare and review supporting schedules for real estate-specific reporting areas, including investment properties, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, debt, and joint venture investments
- Support the preparation of consolidated and combined financial statements, including intercompany eliminations and noncontrolling interest calculations
- Assist with XBRL tagging and review of interactive data submissions
- Research and document technical accounting issues under current ASC guidance, particularly as they relate to real estate transactions (e.g., lease accounting, impairment, real estate acquisitions, JV consolidation)
- Coordinate with property accounting, FP&A, treasury, and legal teams to gather information necessary for SEC filings
- Assist with the preparation of earnings release schedules and supplemental reporting packages, including funds from operations (FFO) and other REIT-specific non-GAAP metrics
- Support the quarterly review and annual audit process, serving as a point of contact for external auditors on assigned areas
- Monitor SEC and FASB rule changes, assessing potential impact on the company's reporting and disclosure requirements
- Assist with maintaining internal controls over financial reporting in compliance with SOX requirements
- Support ad hoc projects, including debt or equity offerings, comfort letter procedures, and new accounting standard implementations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- 2-4+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting audit background (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred
- Experience with or exposure to real estate/REIT clients strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- Familiarity with XBRL tagging and disclosure management software (Workiva or similar) a plus
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Yardi, MRI, or similar) a plus
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
