Staff Accountant

This position will support day-to-day accounting activities across a portfolio of properties and assist with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and property-level accounting. Responsibilities Perform accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential real estate properties. Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations. Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations and investigate account variances. Assist with preparation of monthly property-level financial statements and internal reporting packages. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice coding, payment processing, tenant receipts, and cash application. Perform bank reconciliations and monitor property-level cash activity. Maintain fixed asset schedules and assist with depreciation calculations. Support accounting for property acquisitions, dispositions, and capital expenditures, as needed. Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and budget-to-actual variance analysis. Maintain accurate supporting documentation and accounting records for assigned properties. Assist with annual audits and provide schedules and supporting documentation as requested. Collaborate with property management, asset management, and other internal departments to resolve accounting-related questions. Assist with special projects and process improvements as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred. Real estate, property management, construction, or related industry experience preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and the month-end close process. Experience preparing journal entries and performing balance sheet and bank reconciliations. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis. Experience with real estate accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar software is a plus. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Experience working with multi-entity or multi-property accounting structures.
