Deputy Director, Care Transformation

Position Summary The Deputy Director leads the development, synthesis, and deployment of high-impact, evidence-based content that supports health centers in implementing practical, measurable improvements in care delivery. This role is responsible for translating complex clinical literature, policy guidance, quality frameworks, and implementation science into actionable tools, guides, and resources that health centers can implement on the ground. The Deputy Director ensures content is scientifically rigorous, strategically aligned, operationally relevant, and clearly written. This position requires scientific fluency, strong strategic judgment, exceptional writing and editing ability, and the capacity to work cross-functionally with subject matter experts (SMEs), instructional designers, program leads, communications teams, and external partners. The Deputy Director contributes to the organization as a learning-focused, evidence-driven entity by ensuring that content strategy advances national transformation priorities and delivers practical value to the field. Primary Responsibilities & Duties Content Development Lead content development for primary care transformation initiatives Define content architecture across major initiatives (e.g., Action Guides, implementation roadmaps, toolkits, learning modules, briefs). Maintain ownership of assigned content portfolio from concept through publication and dissemination. Establish and uphold editorial standards for clarity, scientific accuracy, and field usability. Ensure alignment with organizational strategy, national initiatives, and funder priorities. Evidence Synthesis & Translation Distill large volumes of peer-reviewed literature, federal guidance, clinical recommendations, and implementation frameworks into clear, operational steps. Translate evidence-based clinical and systems change concepts into practical workflows, checklists, templates, and decision supports. Apply principles of implementation science and adult learning to increase real-world uptake. Identify emerging evidence and determine relevance and application for health centers. Writing & Editorial Leadership Write and edit high-quality, publication-ready content including: Action Guides Transformation roadmaps Technical briefs Executive summaries Field-facing implementation tools Ensure writing is concise, evidence-based, and accessible to clinical and operational leaders. Provide developmental and substantive editing support to internal contributors and SMEs. Maintain consistency in voice, structure, and usability across all products. Content Judgment & Thought Leadership Determine which evidence, frameworks, and approaches are most actionable for safety-net primary care settings. Balance scientific rigor with operational feasibility. Identify gaps in existing resources and propose new content initiatives. Contribute to proposal development, strategic planning, and funder deliverables. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with clinical SMEs, program directors, instructional designers, data analysts, and communications teams to co-develop content. Guide SMEs in shaping technical expertise into clear and usable products. Collaborate with Learning & Development to translate written content into interactive learning experiences. Work with communications teams to align dissemination strategies and messaging. Field Relevance & Impact Ensure content reflects real-world workflows in community health centers. Incorporate feedback loops from health centers, PCAs, and HCCNs to refine materials. Contribute to presentations, webinars, and national meetings to support scale and spread of evidence-based practices. Project & Portfolio Management Manage multiple content initiatives simultaneously with defined timelines and deliverables. Coordinate review cycles, SME input, and version control processes. Contribute to funder reporting, proposal content, and impact documentation. Required Qualifications Education & Experience Master’s degree required (MPH, MPA, MSN, MS, or related field preferred). Minimum 5 years of experience in primary care, public health, quality improvement, health services research, or related field; clinical or nursing background a plus. Demonstrated experience synthesizing clinical literature into actionable tools or guidance. Experience working in or with community health centers, safety-net providers, or healthcare transformation initiatives preferred. Professional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong scientific literacy and ability to critically appraise clinical literature. Deep understanding of primary care systems, quality improvement, and value-based care. Exceptional writing and substantive editing skills. Demonstrated ability to distill complexity into clarity. Strong strategic thinking and judgment. Experience applying implementation science principles to real-world settings. Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects with minimal supervision.
